WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF HEADACHES?

Tension Headaches:

This is the most common type of headache.  Typically described as a dull, aching pain throughout the head and neck, tension headaches come-and-go causing mild to moderate pain.

Cluster Headaches:

Described as a series of piercing headaches occurring on one side of the face or behind the eyes, this type of headache can last for days or months at a time.  Men are more likely to experience headaches of this type.

Migraines:

This type of headache is described as a throbbing or pulsing pain, often on one side of the head.  The pain can last for hours or days and can hinder ones ability to carry out their daily routine due to light and sound sensitivity, as well as nausea and vomiting.

WHAT ARE HEADACHES CAUSED BY?

There are several factors that may trigger a headache, such as certain foods and drinks, environmental stimuli, and muscle tension.  Sedentary activities and general lack of movement can cause stiffness in the neck and shoulders, leading to headaches.  The vast majority of headaches are not a sign of an underlying health issue.  Most of the time, the pain from a headache is the primary medical concern.
